Edge Wireless Internet

You might have heard about EDGE wireless internet. What is this new technology, and how has it helped revolutionize wireless data transfer? EDGE, in addition to EVDO and CDMA technology, are being adapted by the four major American cell phone carriers, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint, to provide broadband wireless internet from almost anywhere.

Here’s how it works: by purchasing a wireless internet aircard from us that is specific to your cell phone carrier, you can plug it in to the side of your laptop and enjoy wireless internet connectivity from anywhere there is a cell phone digital signal. This differs greatly from the wireless internet to which you might be accustomed, namely from wireless internet receivers and satellite cards.

Cingular and the EDGE Network

Edge wireless internet, in particular, has been utilized by our company. As opposed to older wireless internet cards that utilize the GSM or GPRS network, and are capable of speeds up to 56 Kbps, EDGE wireless internet cards have speeds that range anywhere from 75 to 300 Kbps. There’s a marked difference between these two speeds, in terms of browsing and data transfer.

We strongly recommend that you keep these proprietary rules in mind when ordering your wireless internet cards. If you’re a our customer, make sure that you order an EDGE-enabled card, and not one that runs on GPRS or EVDO technology. With speeds up to 300 Kbps, and the ability to access the Internet from anywhere instead of only in your home, you might want to rethink keeping your broadband line.
